![]() ![]() I am In a similar situation with regards to modern combat units DLC´s. But like I said, it took me 2 years to finally get into those games. Battlefront has demos to almost all of their Combat Mission games on their website. If only they had a stand-alone modern era game (cold war or 90ies or even only the early 60ies), I would have bought that game a long time ago.ītw. Then you have the different daytimes, weather types which not only alter the map optically but also your units abilities.Īll that being said, a lot of those things are also to be found in Mius Front which seems to look much better (and run much better) than the Combat Mission games. Also, to my knowledge, it is the only military strategy game that does take into account ERA and APS on vehicles (although not modelled, then again, the shells for the smoke screens are modelled). Of course, there is a complex armor system with different penetration values, engine damages, gun damages etc. All in all, a lot of things are NOT modelled (air planes, helicopters, visible damage on vehicles) but everything is accounted for. There are secondary explosions (however, no ammo cook offs). Rockets have a 3D model, and there is a certain joy to see your ATGM flying towards a T72 and hitting it in a sensitive spot. With some light special effects and a good sound mod (installed within 5 minutes), the game can look and sound very impressive. And somewhere in between, I must have learned to love the graphics for what they are. ![]() So the first off-putting thing is of the table.īy having learned the ropes and playing with the different commands almost blindly now, I found myself highly immersed in the game. It looks like I have learned a thing or two about military tactics in the past two years and the game is not difficult anymore for me now because the stuff that works in real life actually works here. It actually took me two years after buying Shock Force 2 to overcome my repulsion (graphics + performance + difficulty) and now I am deeply in love with the game. I've only fell in love recently with the CM games, was put off before by the graphics and the performance. Hmm, there is a short and a long answer to that and since it is already quite late here in Europe, let me make it short: ![]()
